PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Historical Society is going through a makeover to banish its reputation as stodgy and stuffy.
The Providence Journal reports that in a recent survey, Rhode Islanders used those two words to describe the 190-year-old organization.
Officials of the Historical Society are coming up with a new logo, website, programs and changes to the society's library and John Brown House Museum.
C. Morgan Grefe, executive director, says the group also is embracing new technology and social media.
The society's collections include about 25,000 objects, 5,000 manuscripts, 100,000 books and printed items, 400,000 photographs and maps and 9 million feet of motion picture film.
