Frustrated..... should i be

My wife works nights and I work days. I have a 15 year old step son and an 11 year old step son. I also have a 3 year old son. Both of my step children have chores I assigned to them. However when I come home my wife has continually done the chores for them. She them makes excuses for them as to why they shouldn't have to do it. I mean their chores are to simply do the dishes for the day and to do laundry, fold it, take it to the person that it belongs to's room.

IMO that is perfectly within their capabilities. Anyway I keep coming home and my wife asks me to do said dishes/ laundry. I ask her why one of the kids hasn't done it? then she lays into me trying to put everything off on the kids.

Well while my wife is getting angry my step kids are doing nothing but watching TV and playing computer.

How is giving a 15 yr old and a 11 year old responsibilities that are well within their capabilities me shirking my duties. My wife never asks for help from the kids until she gets to a point where she is angry. Even though I am at work all day and the kids have been home for the summer.

Then I get everything dumped on me. It isn't like I do nothing I am the guy the fixes junk, mows the lawn and stuff like that. My step children do nothing. It urkes me to hell because while I was a rebellious teen I was still expected to help. My parents made me do things around the house.

When we came up with the responsibilities my wife was sitting right there next to me okaying everything.
I am really stressed out about this. My wife and I both work and I feel like the kids should be doing a lot more around the house everyday. Vaccuming, cleaning, laundry, and all of that. Not because I don't want to do it. But because my wife and I both work and the kids do NOTHING.

Microsoft admits Surface might ruffle OEM feathers, vindicates Acer in annual report

Redmond's upcoming Surface slate is brimming with potential -- but Microsoft recognizes that building its own tablet comes with some inherent risks. In the firm's recently submitted annual report, Microsoft tells the Security and Exchange Commission that the new family of slates could loosen ties with some of its partners. "Our surface devices will compete with products made by our OEM partners," the report reads, "which may affect their commitment to our platform." This, of course, echos Acer's sentiment, which accused Microsoft of forgetting the PC builders that helped it become what it is today. Then again, maybe Acer was just preemptively upset it wouldn't get picked for Windows 8's starting line-up.

Religion has little impact in U.S. race: poll

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The religious faiths of President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney will have little weight in November's presidential election, a poll showed on Thursday.

Sixty percent of voters are aware that Romney is a Mormon, and 81 percent say it does not matter to them, according to the poll by the Pew Research Center. The awareness level is almost unchanged from four months ago, during the Republican primary elections.

"Unease with Romney's religion has little impact on voting preferences," the Pew report said.

"Republicans and white evangelicals overwhelmingly back Romney irrespective of their views of his faith, and Democrats and seculars overwhelmingly oppose him regardless of their impression."

The United States has never had a Mormon president.

Obama is a Christian but the view that he is Muslim persists almost four years into his presidency, with 17 percent of voters saying he is Muslim. Forty-nine percent say he is Christian, down from 55 percent near the end of his 2008 campaign, and 31 percent say they do not know Obama's religion.

Among conservative Republicans, 34 percent say Obama, a Democrat, is Muslim, the poll showed.

Overall, 45 percent of voters are comfortable with Obama's religion, 5 percent say it does not matter and 19 percent are uncomfortable.

About two-thirds of voters - 67 percent - agree with the statement "It's important to me that a president have strong religious beliefs." The level has changed little in the past decade.

But 66 percent oppose churches or other houses of worship endorsing political candidates.

The telephone survey was carried out by Pew's Forum on Religion & Public Life and the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press from June 28 to July 9.

The poll sampled 2,973 adults, including 2,373 registered voters. The margin of error for adults was 2.1 percentage points and 2.3 percentage points for voters.

Montana Farm Bureau: Estate tax hurts farmers and ranchers ...

The Montana Farm Bureau has expressed strong dismay that S. 3412, the Middle Class Tax Cut Act, passed yesterday in a 51-48 vote. The state?s largest agricultural organization noted that if anything, the legislation isn?t going to help, but harm, family business and especially family farms and ranches. The bill did not include any extension for the estate tax rate, meaning in 2013, the death tax will increase from 35 percent to 55 percent, and the estate tax deduction will decrease from $5 million to $1 million with no spousal transfer.

?Montana Farm Bureau was extremely dismayed at this vote, especially when both of our senators, who come from farm families, voted yea,? said MFBF President Bob Hanson. ?We?ve been saying over and over again that raising the rate of the death tax and decreasing the deduction could be the death knell for transferring family farms, ranchers or other businesses to the next generation.?

Hanson explains that non-liquid assets, such as machinery, buildings and land, are continually increasing in value. ?According to the report ?Costs and Consequences of the Federal Estate Tax? just released by the bi-partisan Joint Economic Committee, the estate tax is a significant hindrance to entrepreneurial activity since many family businesses lack sufficient liquid assets to pay estate tax liabilities. In 2010, liquid assets in agriculture comprised only 12 percent of total assets whereas hard assets (including land and buildings) comprised 88 percent of total assets. Alone, real estate accounted for approximately 85 percent of farm assets in 2010.?

He says farmers or ranchers who have to sell land and equipment to generate enough cash to pay a hefty federal estate tax often don?t have enough money left to keep their business viable. ?If you sell most of your grazing land, or several expensive pieces of farm equipment to pay the death tax, you won?t have what you need to keep producing food,? Hanson said. ?It?s a real travesty.?

According to the report, there are extensive costs associated with the estate tax in terms of the dissolution of family businesses, slower growth of capital stock and a loss of output and income over time. This can be particularly hard on farm families, who own 98 percent of the nation?s 2.2 million farms.

The report found that estate tax impedes economic growth because it discourages savings and capital accumulation. Gaining access to capital is vital to farms and rural economies. Currently, in some parts of the country including Montana, land values have increased over $10,000 per acre. Further, land values from 2010 to 2011 increased on average 25 percent and have greatly expanded the number of farms and ranches that now top the estate tax $5 million exemption which is easily reached when the bulk of your asset value is the land you farm.

?The estate tax creates a steep barrier for young people trying to get into farming and ranching,? notes Hanson. ?With 58 being the average age of a farmer, we should be trying to make things easier for young people instead of making it almost impossible to get into ag because of these outrageous tax laws. If a farmer?s or rancher?s heirs have to pay the rate of 55 percent of the estate with an exemption of $1 million, it will put Montana agriculture out of business in one generation.?

GC: Cuero's Cooking Depot offers tools, tips, classes

    • Upcoming classes

    • For a complete list of cooking classes at the Cooking Depot, visit thecookingdepot.com/ classchedule.html, or call Annette Rath at 361-275-2725.

    • Cooking Depot

    • ??Address: 202 S. Esplanade St., Cuero

      ??Phone: 361-275-2725

      ??Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Over a speaker in the back of the store, a chef explained the difference between using pecan and olive oil. In front of her, a small audience of women sat at tables set with silverware wrapped in cloth napkins, sharing whispers and laughter in between tips and jokes.

If there were a camera in the background, it might be mistaken for a television cooking show but, instead, it was one of the Cooking Depot's lunch cooking classes.

High above the cooking area, a mirror gave guests a bird's-eye view of what Chef Molly Fowler was cooking on the gas range. The eggs came to a soft scramble in her small, nonstick pan, and the combination of bell peppers and ham put off a faint, sweet but salty, aroma.

The class, "Lazy Day Brunch," combined a fresh salad, entree, dessert and even a cocktail for entertaining with friends or family on holidays.

Once a portion of the meal was complete, plates were served to the table guests so they could enjoy the finished product.

"Some of these women are fabulous cooks, everybody just needs new ideas," Fowler said. "It's not that we're teaching them something brand new. We're just giving them some new thoughts and suggestions."

Fowler described the cooking classes at the Cooking Depot as "safe environments where everyone can come and have fun." Each month offers a schedule of casual one-hour lunch sessions or the more intimate, two-hour sessions. In addition to offering the classes, Cooking Depot owner Annette Rath has a roster of chefs who rotate to give guests a variety of lessons and teaching styles.

Fowler, 59, who has been a part of the classes at the Cooking Depot for 11 years, tries to include different trends. It may not always include beef or chicken, she said, but it will always be something "educational and instructional."

"We have quite a few men who come out to the classes. If you're doing beef, the men will be there," she said.

Donna Hisey, of Gonzales, started coming to the classes, when they started in 2001.

"I always learn something new, and there are always neat projects," the 54-year-old said. She added that she is "just a mom" who enjoys cooking.

    Equipment

The walls in the Cooking Depot are stocked to the ceiling with utensils, pots, baking pans and helpful gadgets for the cook at home, no matter the level of expertise.

"The staff is so knowledgeable," she said. "They help direct you to get the best for the money you want to spend."

During her class, Fowler joked that she may not be able to retire if she continues to work at the Cooking Depot because she always finds something new for her kitchen in Houston. One item that caught her eye was a specially designed whisk for making sauces that has a nonstick and non-scratch coating on it.

"That's my downfall, I come here and I use it in my class," she said.

Kitchen essentials, according to Fowler, include sharp knives, quality pots and pans, a food processor and a stand mixer. Each item serves its own purpose and can make cooking less of a chore and more enjoyable.

During her class, she used her stand mixer to make a basil vinaigrette for the salad and explained to her audience that it makes it easier to ensure the oil and the vinegar are combined more thoroughly than mixing it by hand.

"I cannot live without my stand mixer," she said. "I use it for everything."

Living in Gonzales, where there are few restaurants, Hisey finds herself cooking at home and entertaining more with friends and family. During her visits to the Cooking Depot for classes, she said she finds something to buy.

"For a nonstick pan, the Swiss Diamond pans are worlds beyond anything else I've bought," she said. "This store is equally as good as Williams-Sonoma."

    inventory

Whether the cook at home falls under the category of amateur or novice, the Cooking Depot has the right tools to make the task easier. Tammy Bitterly, who is in charge of sales and ordering at the Cooking Depot, tries to maintain a variety of items for all levels of cooks.

"We cater to the domestic cook, commercial cook and outdoor griller," she said. "We have the top-of-the-line cookware, but we also have really good everyday cookware for the everyday kitchen."

The Cooking Depot, which started as the Cuero-Yoakum Propane Gas Co. changed its name in 1999 when it started carrying more than just outdoor grilling equipment. Bitterly said the company started to expand its inventory to include more domestic cooking equipment when she and Rath noticed a demand in the community. No other retailer in the area was selling the tools and items vendors, commercial cooks and home cooks were looking for.

"We pride ourselves on teaching new cooking methods and how to use the gadgets that we carry in the store," she said.

Bitterly, 46, said the merchandise in the store is exclusive to the gourmet stores. She admitted she's not into the more intricate gadgets like other cooks are, but did say they can make things much easier.

"The two things I use at home more than anything in the whole store is my Messermeister knife and my flexible cutting boards," she said. "I use them probably every single day."
