Self Improvement & Memory Training: Ways to Improve Your Self ...

ByAnthony O Kamson

Confidence - what is it and how do we attain it?

"I see myself falling flat on my face and then I do". Is a common statement by those who have come to believe that they 'lack confidence'

What you think will happen. If you think you're a failure, you will fail. Confident people think themselves successful and they find success, even though their confidence is most of the time an act. They literally run a kind of internal home movie where they are doing well.

So, before something nerve-wracking happens run through a positive internal 'home movie' of yourself in the situation that you are in. If you're going for a job interview, imagine just how well you'll do and tell yourself you're going to succeed. Even if you don't get the job, you'll naturally do better than if you had imagined the worst.

"I typically feel so nervous inside that I sabotage myself as though stage-fright". What are sometimes called 'butterflies' are useful. They in fact remind us to give our very best performance. However, they can also make us so physically nervous that we fail. The answer is simple; by faking it, you can often end up feeling confident quite naturally. This is what people do who appear confident do on a daily basis.

So just before that important task or that big date, relax, then stand tall, hold your head up, relax your shoulders and stand with your weight evenly balanced over each foot smile to raise your spirits and go for it!

"However good I feel, I often look nervous to other people". If you act as though you lack confidence, other people will react to that. Often badly. Use the 'SET' plan, smile, eye contact, touch. All which pick up on the three elements confident people typically demonstrate.

1. Smile and you'll seem relaxed.
2. Hold eye contact and you'll seem sure of yourself.
3. Touch with a firm handshake and you'll seem in control.

"I sometimes feel unsure when I'm doing something new". This statement sounds really negative. Isn't it bad to feel unsure? But actually, this is a positive strategy in some new circumstances. It's no good feeling falsely sure of yourself in all new things. If you were too confident you may not see a potential danger.

With anything new, feeling unconfident is your mind's way of alerting you to your lack of experience or a potential danger. So this isn't a negative thought pattern. But you may have wrongly viewed it as negative. And your reaction to the new situation was wrong.

So with anything new a speech, an interview, any new skill, practice ahead of time is what is needed. By rehearsing you will raise your performance and in turn raise your confidence. Through hypnosis you rehearse different situations as if they were real and you do this within you own mind. This speeds up the learning process in gaining more confidence.

Self Hypnosis: If you are interested in self hypnosis and would like me to send you a free personally tailored script which you can use to help you, a family member, partner, or friend gain more confidence visit my website and send me an email. And if you have a website why not add a link to my website so that others may benefit from this unique service. http://www.hypnosolutionsmanchester.co.uk

(AP) ? Boston's Adrian Gonzalez and the Dodgers' James Loney were scratched from their teams' starting lineups Friday night as the clubs tried to finalize a major trade involving the first basemen.

The Red Sox, trying to cut payroll during a disappointing season, also were discussing sending pitcher Josh Beckett, left fielder Carl Crawford and infielder Nick Punto to Los Angeles, a baseball official informed of the discussions said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no announcements were made.

Gonzalez was removed from the Red Sox lineup minutes before a game against the Kansas City Royals, and Loney was pulled from the Dodgers lineup against the Miami Marlins.

The Dodgers began the day in second place in the NL West, three games behind the San Francisco Giants.

The Red Sox started their game seven games under .500 and with little or no postseason hopes. If the trade is completed, the Red Sox would be relieved of a huge salary burden, assuming the Dodgers pick up most of what is owed. Gonzalez, Crawford and Beckett are due $261 million from 2013-18.

Gonzalez's deal calls for $127 million after this season: $21 million annually from 2013-16 and $21.5 million in each of the final two years. Crawford is due $102.5 million over five years: $20 million next year, $20.25 million in 2014, $20.5 million in 2015, $20.75 million in 2016 and $21 million in 2017. Beckett is owed $31.5 million: $15.75 million in each of the next two seasons. And the right-hander can veto any trade since he is a 10-year veteran who has spent five years with his current club.

The Red Sox have plummeted after being one of baseball's best teams for most of last season. They went 6-18 after their collapse began on Sept. 4 last year and they were 65-84 before Friday's game since the skid began.

Manager Terry Francona was let go after last season and Bobby Valentine was brought in, supposedly to exert more discipline in a clubhouse in which pitchers reportedly ate chicken and drank beer during games rather than stay in the dugout to cheer their teammates.

But Valentine, in the first season of a two-year contract, has had a rocky relationship with some of his players. One of them, veteran third baseman-first baseman Kevin Youkilis, was traded to the Chicago White Sox on June 24. Team president Larry Lucchino has said Valentine will finish this season and owner John Henry has voiced support for the manager.

Rookie Will Middlebrooks took over at third and was having a strong season before it ended when he suffered a broken left wrist when he was hit by a pitch on Aug. 10. He will not need surgery.

The Red Sox also are high on rookie catcher Ryan Lavarnway, who was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Aug. 1. Now they're likely to get some top prospects, if a trade with the Dodgers is finalized, and have extra money to sign free agents.

The Red Sox had placed Gonzalez on waivers, ESPN reported. Teams often do that to gauge other clubs' interest in players then try to work out a trade.

"Waiver questions? I'm not talking about that," Gonzalez said before Friday night's game.

Boston began the season with a payroll of $173.2 million, behind only the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.

The Red Sox paid luxury tax in each of the past two seasons. Baseball's new labor contract contains incentives for teams that get their luxury tax payroll ? based on 40-man rosters, average annual values and including benefits ? under $189 million by 2014.

Henry, Lucchino and co-owner Tom Werner and general manager Ben Cherington did not respond to emails seeking comment.

The Dodgers began the day 1 1-2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second wild-card berth in the NL.

"It's crazy," said Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro, who spent 2010-11 with the Red Sox. "They want to win ? this year, next year, whenever."

"It's like I always say, you can't worry about things you can't control. The only thing we can control is what we do here, and that's to go out and try to win every game," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. "We have the talent here. It doesn't matter what the other clubs do. We shouldn't be thinking about what's happening south of us."

Gonzalez, a three-time Gold Glove award winner, could provide a big boost for the Dodgers.

After a slow start, he is hitting .300 with 15 homers and 86 RBIs for the season and leads the majors with a .398 batting average with runners in scoring position. He was better last year, his first with Boston, when he batted .338 with 27 homers and 117 RBIs.

Crawford has been a disappointment in his two seasons with the Red Sox. He underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Thursday to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow and could be ready by spring training.

He hit .282 with three homers and 19 RBIs after batting .255 with 11 homers and 56 RBIs last year. He missed the first 89 games this season while recovering from left wrist surgery, then hurt his elbow in April while rehabbing. He came off the disabled list July 16.

Beckett is in the midst of the worst of his 12 major league seasons with a 5-11 record and a 5.23 ERA, He is 1-7 in his past 13 starts in his seventh season with Boston.

Punto, a backup player, is hitting .200 in 125 at bats.

Loney is having a mediocre year and can become a free agent after the season. He is hitting .254 with four homers and 33 RBIs in 114 games in his seventh major league season, all with the Dodgers.

"It's a little frustrating because you just think there's so much more there. And I know James thinks there's more there," Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly said. "It's hard to have anything really negative to say about James because he's a great kid and he works really hard. He's giving us everything that he's got. It's not a matter of not wanting to or not trying to or not doing the work. It's just not coming out."

A Huge Thanks to The Lit Coach for including me in her post: Blogs ...

Tuesday, I shared the Five Pillars of Effective Blogs?as I shared with the LARARWA group this past weekend:

Compelling Content,?Consistent Posts,?Fresh Ideas,?Engagement, and?Share-ability

Today, I?d like share with you some of the blogs I discussed and why they work.

Yarnagogo?- The blog that launched Knit Lit Romance author Rachael Herron?s career. Rachael shared with me that not only did her blog come before she scored an agent and a three book deal, it pretty much sealed the deal. Her agent and editorial team loved her authentic voice and how she connected with her audience.

Girlfriends Book Club ? This collaborative blog featuring Women?s Fiction heavy hitters Ellen Meister, Lauren Baratz-Logsted, Marilyn Brant, Maggie Mar (who I had the great pleasure of meeting at the LARA event) and many more, is a prime example of great content, consistency, fresh ideas, robust?engagement?with the audience and a community of sharing between most involved on the blog.

I asked Ellen Meister about how the blog began and how they?ve found success as a popular blog. Here?s what she had this to say:

The Girlfriends Book Club blog rose from the ashes of The Girlfriends Cyber Circuit, which was a group of commercially published women authors who posted about each other?s books. That went on successfully for a number of years and eventually just burned itself out. Author Karin Gillespie deserves some kind of medal, because she not only ran the GCC but continues to coordinate and schedule the group blog. ? It?s a tremendously effective way of reaching people, because there?s strength in numbers. With 40 writers as part of the group, the blog pulls from a vast network. ? As it turns out, the majority the blog?s readers seem to be aspiring writers. Recognizing this, we post a lot of writing and marketing tips for aspiring authors. My most popular post was?20 Social Media Tips for Writers. Other favorite posts include?16 Tips for Writing Sexy Scenes,?18 Novelists Share Their Writing Routines?and?Girlfriends Share Tips on How to Be a Productive Writer.? ? As far as promoting our own books, it?s clear that the most popular posts are the ones that offer giveaways. ? Importantly, the women in the group are tremendously supportive, and we help spread the word about each other?s posts with Tweets and Facebook status updates. ?

Menologues?-?Robin Donovan, author of Is it Still Murder Even if She Was a Bitch?, began blogging about menopause ?because stumbling blindly through menopause is less funny than it sounds.? She wanted to reach a community of women who were going through what she was going through and it worked. Robin had a clearly defined audience, wrote specifically for them and soon, her blog was picked up by Vibrant Nation.

Twinfatuation?-?Twins expert and author Cheryl Lage has a world-wide audience, has written for an impressive array of national and local magazines, and ezines, has appeared on Martha Stewart Live Radio, has been called by The Today Show and so much more, mostly because of her blog. But like many bloggers who author books, she didn?t begin with a blog. Cheryl contacted me when I was a literary agent and she, a mother of adorable toddler twins and a writer with a great idea about a book for parents of twins and multiples. Cheryl?s story is very special to me and I was delighted to share it on literary agent Rachelle Gardner?s blog?(another fabulous blog!). I encourage you to read the short post on how we started building her platform as a twin parenting expert before we sold her manuscript. You may see some of your questions and concerns answered in the robust comment thread.

A Walking Carnival?-?This has got to be my favorite slice of life blog ever. I like to say Deirdre Lewis, the creator of AWC, is the love child of Erma Bombeck and David Sedaris. A filmmaker and screenwriter by trade, Deirdre?s unique quirkiness?shines through her blog as she takes you through her neighborhood in Echo Park, CA, to a dusty old camera shop, to an airport book store and to her father?s house. There is no post I don?t absolutely love. This blog is ALWAYS fresh, pretty consistent and I feel the content is spectacularly good. One of her latest posts is an all imagined dialog between two car mechanics ? notice how the conversation reveals so much about the narrator. Deirdre is not repped by an agent, but it won?t be long before she is. She uses the blog to discover her voice and hone her craft. Works for me!

What blogs do you absolutely love and why? Share them below.

Spectacular new NASA video shows Curiosity Mars rover's daring touchdown ( video)

Shot by NASA's Curiosity Mars rover's descent camera, a new HD video released by NASA show's the craft's harrowing plunge through the Red Planet's thin atmosphere.

By Mike Wall,?SPACE.com / August 24, 2012

This color full-resolution image showing the heat shield of NASA's Curiosity rover was obtained during descent to the surface of Mars on Aug. 5 PDT (Aug. 6 EDT). The 15-foot heat shield was photographed by Curiosity's MARDI descent camera.

As of August 20, all but a dozen 1600x1200 frames have been uploaded from the rover, and those missing were interpolated using thumbnail data. The result was applied a heavy noise reduction, color balance, and sharpening for best visibility.

The first video ? taken by Curiosity's Mars Descent Imager camera, or MARDI ? gives a rover's-eye view of the daring touchdown. NASA released a low-resolution version of this one just hours after the rover's landing; at the time, MARDI principal investigator Mike Malin promised the full-frame video would be "exquisite."

And indeed it is.

The high-definition video chronicles the final 2.5 minutes of Curiosity's 7-minute plunge through the Martian atmosphere in real time, starting just after the rover jettisoned its heat shield. The first few seconds show the heat shield falling away toward the red dirt of Gale Crater far below. [Video: Curiosity's Landing in High Resolution]

Other milestones follow, such as parachute deploy and ignition of the engines on Curiosity's "sky crane" descent stage, which lowered the 1-ton rover to the Martian surface on cables. Audio from mission control at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., plays over the video, describing the nail-biting action.?

As Curiosity nears the Martian surface, huge dust clouds billow around the $2.5 billion robot, kicked up by the sky crane's rockets. Then the view clears to show a close-up, static shot of scattered pebbles.

"Touchdown confirmed! We're safe on Mars!" Curiosity entry, descent and landing operations lead Al Chen announces, and deafening cheers erupt in the control room.

The second NASA video documents similar emotional outbursts from the crowds of onlookers that gathered at various places around the country to watch the Mars rover landing.

Over the course of 3.5 minutes, the scene shifts from mission control at JPL to other NASA sites, such as Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif., Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The video also captures the atmosphere at New York City's Times Square, The Planetary Society's Planetfest 2012 event in Pasadena and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, among other places.

When Chen confirms the successful touchdown, these audiences cheer and clap wildly as well, showing how Curiosity's bold and unprecedented landing attempt had riveted millions of people around the country.

"Wow! This brings out the best in us!" Planetary Society CEO (and former TV "Science Guy") Bill Nye exclaimed at Planetfest, to deafening and sustained applause.

The good news has continued after landing for Curiosity, whose main task is to investigate whether Mars could ever have supported microbial life. While scientists are still checking out the rover and its 10 science instruments, everything is working well so far.

Curiosity has already snapped thousands of photos, taken a variety of science measurements and gone on a short test drive on the floor of Gale Crater. The rover could be ready to make its first big move ? toward a science target researchers have dubbed Glenelg ? within the next week or so, team members have said.

Sen Bennett ? Internet Dating Help: Safeguard All By Yourself From ...

No Comments Online dating is a multibillion dollar industry and is also very popular with people who are looking to find potential partners.

These services are also very effective, resulting in linking thousands of people from all parts of the world and many of them resulting in permanent relationships. Online dating is also a convenient way to meet people from different walks of life. This popularity has also attracted a big number of fraudulent people and scamsters who utilize their cloak of anonymity to take advantage of other people and also for more serious malpractices.

The single biggest threat is the ever present danger of identity theft. Online dating interactions result in the most number of identity thefts than any other means. Many people are very careless with their personal information and give them out to relative strangers, sometimes even in the first interaction. Some details like address, phone numbers, job details, etc.

People think that this information is harmless and cannot be misused.

But, the real fact is that this information is enough for scamsters to do some basic research and get more information out of it. The other important online dating advice is discretion during face to face meetings. People must make sure that the meeting place, time and date is made aware to the near and dear ones before the actual meeting takes place. There are numerous instances where people have been subject to physical and mental trauma by fraudulent people during these meetings.

There's More to Social Media Investing Than Facebook, Groupon ...

Even in its diminished stature, Facebook (FB) is still two times larger than its three nearest rivals combined. As top-heavy as that may sound, the reality is that the largest social media site in the world is both tempting and treacherous.

Its size alone can be off-putting, especially for investors who believe the social media trend has just begun, especially in emerging markets like Brazil and China where internet penetration, at about 35%, is less than half what it is in the U.S.

In fact, within the Global X Social Media Index ETF (SOCL), Facebook is only the fifth largest position and only has a 6% weighting, says Bruno del Ama, CEO of Global X Funds, a family of 35 different ETFs.

"The Social Media Fund has obviously come down...but it has come down a lot less than some of its rivals," he says, pointing to its 20% drop from its annual high versus the 50-to-85% drubbing taken by Facebook, Groupon (GRPN) or Zynga (ZNGA) .

The fund 's outperformance can be attributed, in large part, to the fact that it is globally diversified, with no one position accounting for more than 10% and the top five holdings accounting for about 40% of the total assets. del Ama also points out that about 44% of the stocks are U.S. based, while about 40% come from Asia.

Other top picks include LinkedIn (LNKD) and the Chinese trio of Tencent, Sina and Ren Ren.

Few would debate whether a year from now there will be more people and businesses using social media than there are today. It's a trend that is already seeing companies such as Facebook trying to develop new ways to post ads and drive revenue.

All things considered, it makes for a fairly solid investment case del Ama says, who admits he's as confident on the sector today as ever, and perhaps even more, since valuation have gotten so much more attractive.
